What is a battery backup system? A battery backup system is used to aid your primary sump in case of failure, power outage, or help discharge the water when it reaches a certain level. It is important to have a battery backup especially for finished basements to protect your investment and from potential damages that can be very expensive. Many homeowners have asked "what would work best for my home" and my answer is every home is different and depending on the size of the basement and how much you want to spend is the key factors to making a recommendation. As a plumbing professional my favorite back up system which is the most expensive is the SumPro system. I like this system because there are additional options to fully protect your basement and alert you by phone when your power has failed and it working on the battery powered back up. It also includes an alternation switch to uses different pump that are in the pit to prolong the life of the sump pump by not having a designated primary pump. The picture shows one pump but as a professional and seeing what works and what does not I prefer two pumps with separate discharge lines because in the event one gets frozen you have a backup many plumbers like to share the same discharge pipe but Reliance Plumbing prefers to have two.
Another system thatworks well and a better choice for your wallet is The Glentronice ProSeries system There are three different types of units whichinclude the 1000, 1730, and 2400 system The model # stands for howmany gallons per hour the backup pump can discharge water. The 1000 is the mostbasic unit and I like it because it is compatible withthe maintenance free battery witch is nice because you never have toadd distilled water to the battery. The 1730 is a good unit and pumps morewater per hour but the only downfall of this system is that it is notcompatible with the maintenance free battery and needs to use acidbattery that has to be maintained every couple moths. The 2400 isalso a great system and you can use the maintenance free battery andis usually a system that many customerslike because of the price and the features.
